An interesting antidote about Gertruida was the time she lost her wedding band while planting potatoes on the farm in Denton, Montana. The next year while planting potatoes she found her cherished ring. "Gertrude" was an avid gardener and enjoyed making all kinds of arts and crafts. She handcrafted many items for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known as "Gram" by all the children she babysat for. In her eighties she was teaching knitting classes at the YWCA.
