Conrad ("Connie" or "Van") Van de Streek was born in St. Cloud, Minn., on Sept 28, 1914, son of Henry Van de Streek and Ella Hulleman. He was educated in St. Cloud schools, graduating in 1932. He married Lucile Harriet Hinkamp, July 10 1939 in St. Cloud, Stearns Co., Minnesota. She was born 5 May 1913 in Ladoga, Fond Du Lac Co., Wisconsin.
Prior to coming to Valley City, North Dakota, Van was employed for several years on a construction crew. He worked briefly for both the Great Northern and Milwaukee railroads, then joined the Jewel Tea Company as an advance salesman. In 1936 he entered employment with Montgomery Ward in St. Cloud, beginning as an appliance salesman and transferring later to the furniture department. He worked in Ward stores in Green Bay, Wis., Grand Forks, N.D., Lewiston, Mont., and Williston, N.D. as furniture department head until his transfer to Helena in 1943 as assistant manager.
Conrad joined the staff of The Valley City Times T-R, (North Dakota) in April of 1945 as classified manager under owner Don Matchan.
Conrad Vande Streek, age 80, of Tucson, died Tuesday, June 14, 1994.
