Aantekeningen - In the course of the research for information, it happened that in 1995
contact was established with Dirk George STORM (1940) who lives in Delden,
Overijssel province. He is a great-grandson of Gerrit. He submitted a copy
of correspondence between Franciscus STORM (1876-1946) and his brother
Gerrit STORM (1804-1882) dated 17 December 1934. In it Frans revealed that
he could only remember very little about his grandfather as he was eight
years old when Gerrit died. However he wrote some interesting remarks about
the way of life of his grandfather-remember that Gerrit lived in a house
attached to the Waag.
"On Fridays, when it was Cheese Market Day, I and my brother Frans went to
the Waag to visit our grandparents to collect our pocket money. There were
on Fridays heaps of cheese barricadeding the entrance to the home. But for
us that was no obstacle and in next to no time we were in the living room
standing beside the table on which were two one cent coins lying ready to be
picked up. I remember the friendly face of grandmother Neeltje KROON
(1806-1890) in the room and the rather small posture of her husband,
somewhere outside, between the numerous heaps of cheese, not apt to talk
much, concentrated in his work for his cheese and his cheese farmers. We
were quickly a nuisance in the small space and soon disappeared. I do
remember the old fashioned glass fronted cupboard mounted on the wall in the
passage, full of fancy cups and saucers, as it still hangs there but
dilapidated now, a reminder of the very attractive interior of the days when
grandfather and grandmother STORM lived there."
