Gerrit "Garret" Van De Streek was born Sept 18, 1896 in Oldebroek, Gelderland, Netherlands. Son of Jan van de Streek and Gertrude Hoekert. He first married Marie Pater, his second marriage was to Elizabeth Flier.


WAUPUN LEADER NEWS 1/29/1970 Garret Vande Streek Dies Suddenly at Home

Garret Vande Streek, 73, died in his home at 314 Taylor St. Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, of an apparent heart attack. He was born Sept. 18, 1896, in The Netherlands and came to the United States with his parents when he was nine years old. He was the son of John and Gertrude Hoekert Vande Streek. He was married to the former Marie Pater in Alto and the couple farmed in that area until they moved to Waupun in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1947. In 1959 Mr. Vande Streek was married to Elizabeth Flier and they resided in Waupun all their married life. He was employed by National Rivet company until he retired in 1962. Mr. Vande Streek was also preceded in death by a son, one grandson, one sister and five brothers. Survivors include his widow, four sons, John, Stateville N.C.; Alvin, Waupun; Wilbur, Green Lake; and Gerald, Hartford; one daughter, Mrs. Royal Drake, Waupun; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Wallendal, Eldorado; and Mrs. John Henken, Waupun. Visitation may be made in Kohls company funeral home Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in Emmanuel Reformed church Thursday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. The Rev. George Chermak will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marvin Schouten, Elmer Schouten, Donald Harper, Bernard Vande Streek, Harrison Vande Streek and John Wallendal. (Source: Find A Grave)

WAUPUN LEADER NEWS 01/13/ 1944 John Vande Streek, 79, Died Friday; Services Held in Alto on Monday

John Vande Streek, 79, died Friday in the home of his son, Bert Vande Streek, in the town of Alto, following a short illness. Mr. Vande Streek was born on Jan. 18, 1864, in the Netherlands. He was married to Gertrude Hoekert in 1888, the couple coming to the United States in 1905. Mrs. Vande Streek died in 1920. Survivors include two sons, Bert and Gerrit Vande Streek, both of the town of Alto, three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Wallendal, and Mrs. John Frens of Waupun, and Mrs. Payson Harper of Oregon, 24 grandchidren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, Henry, of St. Cloud, Minn. and a sister, Mrs. S. Bille. Four sons preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock in the Hinkamp funeral home and at 2 o'clock in the Alto Reformed church. The Rev. J.C. Van Wyk officiated at the services. Special music was furnished by Mrs. Andrew Stelsel, accompanied by Miss Josie Kastien. Burial was in the Presbyterian cemetery in the town of Alto. Pallbearers were Henry Frens, Henry Van Ruiswyjk, Ed Vant Hoff, Albert Vant Hoff, Tenis Van Veen, and Ed Vande Zande.(Source: Find A Grave)

Grietje "Gertrude" Hoekert was born in Doornspijk, Gelderland, Netherlands, 6 Feb 1863. Daughter of Gerrit Hoekert and Willemina Grootkarzijn. Grietje married Jan van de Streek 29 March 1889 in Oldebroek, Holland, son of Beert van de Streek and Hendrikje Tuinman. Jan and Grietje Immigrated to America in 1905.

WAUPUN LEADER NEWS 3/18/ 1920 CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. John Vande Streek

Typhoid pneumonia claimed the third member of the family within less than two months, when Mrs. John Vande Streek died at the family home in the town of Alto on Monday evening, March 15th. Her sons, John and Henry, both young men, succumbed to the disease during the winter. Her death is a hard blow to the husband and the six children, three of whom are still at home. Mrs. Vande Streek was born in the Netherlands and had reached the age of 51 years, 1 month and 9 days. About fifteen years ago she came to America and has since made her home in this vicinity. Funeral services will be held this afternoon from the Presbyterian church in Alto, conducted by Rev. J. Klerekoper. Interment wil be in Alto.(Source: Find A Grave)
